Tokyo, November 8, 2001 - KDDI Corp. and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company will release from the middle of December two new types of cellular phone handsets for the au wireless service. The first is the 'C1001SA', made by Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., which can be used both in Japan and overseas in conjunction with the 'Global Passport' international roaming service. The other is the 'C1002S', made by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Japan.,Inc, which has fun and stylish removable front design panels.

'Global Passport' Compatibility |

Since it's compatible with the 'Global Passport' service, the handset can be used overseas, with the same phone number as in Japan and without requiring separate registration. Some six countries are currently taking part in Global Passport; the U.S. (including Hawaii), Canada, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand. Brazil and Mexico will take part from next spring and more are set to join in the future. |
Useful Overseas Functions Included |

Handsets come with a 'Global Time/Calendar' that shows dates and times in 34 cities, six different calendars and various other functions that are useful when traveling overseas. The 'English Conversation' screens have audio clips of basic English words and phrases for 33 daily situations. 'Country Information' has a wide selection of information about countries, and other information useful when overseas. |

Without opening the phone, the 'Notice Display' on the back of the handset shows who called, the remaining life of the battery and the time. |
Sophisticated e-mail |

The highly functional e-mail service can send and receive e-mails with picture file attachments in Japan. It also allows users to save e-mails, and receive messages of up to 5,000 characters.
