KDDI Corporation
Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company

2007/02/28

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce that users of 'one seg'-compatible au mobile phones exceeded two million contracts on February 23, 2007. This figure shows KDDI holding the leading position for mobile phone sales by carrier, for the last consecutive 14 months.

KDDI began sales of 'one seg'-compatible au mobile phones on December 16, 2005, beating other mobile providers to become the first company to offer terrestrial digital television broadcasting to mobile phones and other mobile terminals. In addition to television programs with a clear picture and sound, KDDI has collaborated with broadcasting corporations to provide content for mobile phones in order to offer its customers the best possible service.

Note)  There are currently 12 'one seg'-compatible au mobile phones on the market.

Reference:  According to the sales figures (new subscriptions and phone upgrades) in GfK Japan's POS data for December 2005 to January 2007 for retail outlets of major retail outlets in the country, au has kept the top position in monthly sales for 14 months since the launch of its 'one seg' mobile phones (with digital TV antennas), and attained a 59.96% share of the total sales among all the mobile phone providers.
