On March 1, 2012 KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will unleash "au Smart Value," a service that cuts au smartphone costs for users through strengthened partnerships with FTTH and CATV providers. au Smart Value discounts 1,480 yen (tax included) for a maximum of two years from the monthly au smartphone usage fee for users who register for an au smartphone and use designated fixed-line communications services. A discount of 980 yen (tax included) will continue to apply after using au Smart Value for the initial two year discount period.
Eligibility for the au Smart Value discount extends to users who sign up for designated fixed-line communications services and family members living with the user (collectively referred to as a "group" below). The total discount for au smartphone usage fees for a family of four is a maximum of 5,920 yen (tax included) monthly and 142,080 yen (tax included) for the two year discount period.
Also, "au Smart Value (router discount)" is scheduled to launch simultaneously. This service features a special price for a maximum of one mobile Wi-Fi router to groups eligible for au Smart Value.
With the au Smart Value (router discount), groups eligible for au Smart Value can use a mobile Wi-Fi router for 390 yen (tax included) per month for up to 10 MB or a flat rate of 4,410 yen (tax included) per month if usage exceeds 10 MB. Moreover, the monthly au.NET fee and the processing fee for signing up are completely free. This lets users who only need a small amount of data transmission easily enjoy high speed data transmission services at home or away from home via a Wi-Fi connection.
