KDDI has announced it is strengthening its data center business in the Greater China market, which includes mainland China and Hong Kong, with a total investment of approximately 11 billion yen for the construction of a new high-quality TELEHOUSE data center in Beijing that complies with TELEHOUSE global standards, and for the expansion of the existing data center in Hong Kong, which will increase its floor area by 2.4 times. Both facilities are scheduled to begin operations in December 2012.
KDDI currently operates four data centers in the Greater China market, in the three cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. This business expansion will bring the total number of data centers to five and increase the total floor area of all facilities to approximately 67,000 square meters.
The new Beijing facility will boast a floor area of 25,000 square meters and serve as a large-scale carrier-neutral data center for the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, which attracts a number of major companies. The data center will be operated by TELEHOUSE BEIJING BDA Co., Ltd., a joint venture between KDDI and BEIJING SINNET TECHNOLOGY Co., Ltd., which is engaged in Beijing's highly competitive Internet and data center industry.
In addition, the floor area of the TELEHOUSE HONG KONG CCC facility, which opened in 2011, will be increased to 20,000 square meters, making it the largest data center in Hong Kong.
Greater China's sustained high rate of growth makes it the key market driving the overall Asian economy, and its vitality is enhanced by the presence of Japanese and other foreign-capital companies. As such, there is demand for global-standard quality and highly reliable services. With the data centers as the core, KDDI Group offers strong support to customers expanding their operations in the region by providing CDN services with a strong advantage in the Chinese domestic market, system integration services through DMX Technologies Group Limited, and a high-quality global network.
