KDD America Applies for License for Facilities-Based International Telecommunication Business Between Japan and the U.S.

NotificationFebruary 6, 1998

KDD America Inc. (main office: New York, president: Hiroshi Hirai), a wholly-owned subsidiary of KDD (Japan's Global Communications), applied on February 5 (local time) for licenses with the Federal Communications Commission, pursuant to Article 214 of the United States Telecommunications Act, to provide international telecommunication business between Japan and the United States.

KDD America filed these applications to provide the following services:
(1)Facilities-based international telecommunication services such as international telephone and international leased circuit services between the United States and Japan.
(2)International telephone service from the United States to Japan by the resale of public switched services.

By last year KDD America had received necessary licenses required to provide international telecommunication services between the United States and the rest of the world except for Japan. Once FCC approves those applications, KDD America will purchase circuit capacity in international optical submarine cables between Japan and the United States and combine facilities-based and resale-base operations to build an economical and efficient network.

KDD will continue to collaborate with its group companies to expand its overseas telecommunications business from the United States, U.K., Germany, and France to the rest of the world.
