KDD, putting the Year 2000 problem on the top of its corporate agenda , has been tackling the problems since August 1996, and all the work for countermeasures was completed as of September 30, 1999.
[Development of Promotional Framework and Risk Management Plan (Contingency Plan)]
KDD's efforts to address the Year 2000 problem started, in August 1996, with a company-wide scale educational campaign for its employees and a variety of investigations. In February 1999 the company stepped up its related activities by organizing "Year 2000 Problem Task Force" headed by Kinji Iwasaki, Executive Vice President of KDD in an attempt to press ahead with every work for renovating the facilities involved as well as for identifying possible troubles.
On top of this, based on the Risk Management Plan (Contingency Plan) elaborated at the end of June this year, the whole KDD Group is poised to counter unexpected happenings with the about 1,200 member system from the head of the task force on down for the period (December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000) during which occurrence of any Year 2000 issue is most alarmed.
[Measures for Facilities]
Necessary measures including renovation and replacement were completed by the end of September with respect to KDD's facilities as a whole (Telecommunications systems, Network management systems, Charging and Billing systems, Power supply equipment, Air-conditioners, and so forth.).
[Simulation Test on Interconnection with Other Carriers]
KDD has been carrying out the simulation tests on interconnection with telecommunications carriers at home and abroad to further ensure the correct functioning of the countermeasures. By the end of September, all the tests planned were completed showing it is very unlikely that any problem will arise in these countermeasures.

KDD will continue to work on the Year 2000 problem through various actions including a company-wide scale training drill on assumption of a critical date and review of the emergency control plan to accommodate changes in circumstances.
