KDD notified Minister of Posts and Telecommunications today of the reduction of charges for Inmarsat ship-originated telephone calls and the revision to the rate division according to service area. The rate reduction takes effect on December 20.
In addition to the reduction of charges for, out of Inmarsat telephone services, dial calls originated from A, B and M system terminals on board ship, the rate division according to service area will be revised. Together with the reduction of charges mainly for calls to service areas including Japan where there is much demand, the rate division according to service area will be simplified from the existing four-strata division (Japan/Asia, America and Oceania/Europe/Africa) to a three-strata division in the order of traffic volumes used to achieve a more streamlined rate system.
As a result, an average reduction rate is 12.4 %, and the maximum reduction rate 31.6 %, enabling customers to use Inmarsat telephone services more economically.
Details of new charges are as given in Attachment.
