KDDI Corporation
Through KDDI Open Innovation Fund III (operated by Global Brain Corporation; hereinafter "KOIF III"), which aims to incubate new business co-creations with promising venture startups, KDDI invested in Mirrativ, Inc., a company that operates the "Mirrativ" game distribution platform (Headquarters: Meguro-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Junichi Akagawa; hereinafter "Mirrativ").
Mirrativ is a smartphone screen-sharing game distribution platform that allows anyone to easily distribute games with a single smartphone. The platform recreates a world where you can gather at your friends' houses and enjoy playing games around the TV just like when you were a child.
The ease with which anyone can easily distribute games with a single smartphone has been well received and has grown to become Japan's largest smartphone game distribution platform with over 4.3 million distributors. In addition, the percentage of active users who are distributors is approximately 30%, an extremely high level that creates a highly interactive community in which users move back and forth between each other's distributions.
Mirrativ is focusing on the development of live games, a new form of live gaming that allows viewers to participate and intervene in the game being distributed. The live gaming market is a market with low development costs, but with a structure that activates gifting (C2C structure), so the average billing amount can be expected to be as high as that of social games.
Furthermore, Mirrativ is currently building its own creator economy and is working to make it possible to give back more abundantly to many distributors by strengthening the types of returns and revenue support to a "world where just distributing games is a little bit more profitable".
Through this investment, KDDI will support the business growth of Mirrativ through the introduction of povo2.0 GigaKatsu as a means of rewarding "Mirrativ" creators as well as other business collaborations that contribute to the creator economy.
As "the company that customers feel closest to," KDDI will continue to promote business co-creation through investment in promising startup companies, and create new business models together with customers and partners.
