July 7, 2023
KDDI Corporation
On July 7, 2023, 2023, KDDI invested in Light Inc. (Headquarters: 9-6-29 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yasuyuki Kin; hereinafter: "Light"), the operator of the "palmu" next-generation live streaming platform utilizing Web 3.0 technology, through KDDI Open Innovation Fund III (operated by Global Brain Corporation; hereinafter "KOIF III"), which aims to incubate new business co-creations with promising venture startups.
By providing the "palmu" next-generation live streaming app, Light is offering a place where future stars are produced by users and promoting enthusiastic community building. In addition, "palmu" is also challenging the Web 3.0 domain by incorporating its own palmu points and tokens (crypto assets) with the goal of providing new experiences to users.
Through this investment, KDDI will support the business growth of Light with its stated vision of "building a world that co-creates future stars." The KDDI Group aims to realize a platform which can grant economic incentives and tokens with project governance rights to users and other project contributors by supporting Light in challenging the Web 3.0 domain.
As "the company that customers feel closest to," KDDI will continue to promote business co-creation through investment in promising startup companies, and create new business models together with customers and partners.
