KDDI to Support the Development of a Space Bio-Experiment Platform and Peripheral Technologies Through the Space Co-Creation Program "MUGENLABO UNIVERSE"

KDDI announced that they decided on March 7, 2025, to support the development of a space bio-experiment platform and peripheral technologies (hereinafter "this project") by IDDK Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; Founder & CEO: Soichiro Ueno; hereinafter "IDDK") through the space co-creation program Open link in a new windowMUGENLABO UNIVERSE (in Japanese only).
IDDK aims to create new businesses utilizing the space bio-experiment platform and will carry out the development and demonstration of a space bio-experiment unit. KDDI will provide financial assistance and other support for demonstration experiments for commercialization through MUGENLABO UNIVERSE.

Furthermore, KDDI was selected in September 2024 as a participating company in the "Global Cluster Creation Project (hereinafter "TIB CATAPULT")" established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, representing the companies participating in MUGENLABO UNIVERSE [Jump to the applicable section1]. With respect to the operation of MUGENLABO UNIVERSE, we will contribute to the development of new commercial products and business growth of startups, while receiving financial support from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and introductions from universities and other experts.

■About this project

IDDK aims to develop a space bio-experiment service utilizing a semiconductor sensor-based microscopic observation technology.
In this project, IDDK will develop optimized space bio-experiment units to conduct experiments and research and development using space environments, such as discovering new drugs, and the units will undergo demonstration experiments in space.
Based on the results of the research, IDDK aims to return the technology to the ground and create new businesses that will support space exploration, together with technological development.

  • MUGENLABO UNIVERSE is a program that aims to co-create space businesses through startups and major companies as well as leverage space technologies to solve terrestrial problems.
  • The program provides diverse demonstration environments, matching opportunities between companies, and knowledge sharing by experts in the space field, etc. to create an environment that makes it easy for companies to create businesses utilizing space.
  • MUGENLABO UNIVERSE will utilize the agreement project "TIB CATAPULT" with Tokyo Metropolitan Government to further strengthen its support for startup business growth and improvements in enterprise value.

■About Open link in a new windowTIB CATAPULT

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has signed agreements with clusters formed by multiple companies to spur innovation in industrial and technology areas that are Tokyo's strengths with the goal of promoting cooperation and collaboration with startups in cluster areas and create innovation.
Each of the selected clusters aims to create 20 or more collaborative results between major companies, etc. and startups over three years to create startups that have the potential to grow on a global scale.
